Fall Colors and Fall Loons

Finally, we have decent fall color at the lake.  Got out in the kayak this morning and were not disappointed.  Although not at its peak, the color is very nice.  Here are some examples. At the south end of the lake, just to the west of Horton Creek. Point just south of OCC The  OCC Shoreline. In addition to the fall color, we three loons.  […]

Baby Loon is Growing Fast

It was another beautiful morning to be on the lake.  Just as I got into the kayak, mamma loon started calling and dancing to distract me from the young one.  I just sat in the kayak with the camera capturing the beauty of the show.  Here’s some of the photos. In this shot, you can see the chick as the blurry black spot behind the […]

Beautifiul Morning on the Lake

Another great morning on the lake.  It wasn’t too choppy and the sun was shining. There were lots of birds around the water this morning.  The kingfishers were noisy and in constant motion, so no photos of them.  Here are a few of the others.       The water lilies were in full bloom, bright in the sunlight.           However, […]

The Baby Loon and More

Finally got back up to the lake and in the kayak.  It was a pleasure to see the baby loon with Mom and Dad.  It seems to be doing just fine.  Click on each image for a larger view.   Here are a couple more of Mom and Baby.   I also saw three young bucks at the water’s edge.  Their antlers are just filling […]

New Duck Lake Resident

Let’s give a welcome to Duck Lake’s newest resident, Baby Loon!   This photo was taken by our good friend on the peninsula, Jane Shoup.  We have both seen Momma Loon on the nest, but Jane was fortunate enough to catch a shot of the new family.  Thanks for sharing, Jane. I’m doing this post while on the road with my tablet, so bear with […]

Scenes from the Kayak

I’ve been out a few times in the kayak in Duck Lake.  Every year brings things that are familiar and things that are different.  This looks like a year with a bumper crop of turtles.  I’ve seen many more this year than last year.  Here are a few. This poor guy looks like his shell is peeling and the flies won’t leave him alone. I […]

Calm Evening on the Lake

I was fortunate enough to do two kayak evenings on the lake with Polly, Barb, Laurie, and Pete.  The wind and water were calm.  The sunset was beautiful.  The full moon came up.  Here are some of the photos from these evening cruises. First for some wildlife.  It was a real treat to see the four-point buck white tail deer.  It was along the shore, actually […]

Kayaks and Herons and Loons, Oh My!

We took an evening kayak paddle around Duck Lake last night.  As the sun was going down the lake lay down very quiet as the wind died down and the boats took to shore.  It was the end of a beautiful day.  So relaxing to be on the water at this time of day.  Here’s a sample of the sight we saw. I did catch […]

A Calm Day on the Lake

After a very windy day on Sunday causing white-caps on the lake, Monday afternoon was dead calm.  The lake was perfectly flat.  What a difference a day makes. Here are some photos from the kayak. So, it was another beautiful day to be on the lake. Mark

More scenes from the kayak

I haven’t posted any kayak images in a while, so here is a long collection of them from the last few weeks.  Not much commentary, but I’ve tried to label each image with the contents. I’ve also seen a pair of otters and a muskrat at the south end of the lake near Horton Creek, but couldn’t get a photo due to the wind.  I […]
