Night Sky

Both Friday and Saturday evenings looked to be good for star gazing.  I headed over to the Green Lake boat launch to see the sunset and, hopefully, the Milky Way. It was well after dark Friday before I got over there, so missed the sunset.  However, the stars were very nice.  You can just make out the milky way in the center of the image.  […]

Scenes from the Kayak

I’ve been out a few times in the kayak in Duck Lake.  Every year brings things that are familiar and things that are different.  This looks like a year with a bumper crop of turtles.  I’ve seen many more this year than last year.  Here are a few. This poor guy looks like his shell is peeling and the flies won’t leave him alone. I […]

A Beautiful Evening Kayak

A couple weeks ago, a small group went out on Duck Lake for an evening paddle.  It was a beautiful evening to be on the lake.  Here’s some photos from out tour of the lake. The water was calm, so reflections were great. Here’s Polly headed to the south end of the lake. There were a couple sandpipers along the shore. More reflections of the […]

Sunset on Green Lake

Rose and I decided to go over to Green Lake to watch the sunset on Saturday.  We sat on the dock at the boat launch as the sun set.  It wasn’t the most spectacular sunset we’ve seen, but it was peaceful, calm, and very relaxing.  A couple boats came in after listening to the concert at ICA. Here is a short time-lapse video of the […]

Calm Evening on the Lake

I was fortunate enough to do two kayak evenings on the lake with Polly, Barb, Laurie, and Pete.  The wind and water were calm.  The sunset was beautiful.  The full moon came up.  Here are some of the photos from these evening cruises. First for some wildlife.  It was a real treat to see the four-point buck white tail deer.  It was along the shore, actually […]

Kayaks and Herons and Loons, Oh My!

We took an evening kayak paddle around Duck Lake last night.  As the sun was going down the lake lay down very quiet as the wind died down and the boats took to shore.  It was the end of a beautiful day.  So relaxing to be on the water at this time of day.  Here’s a sample of the sight we saw. I did catch […]

Sunset at Three Lakes

Yesterday was a beautiful day, sunny, clear skies, warm, just what spring should be.  After spending a wonderful afternoon and evening with a good friend, I wandered down to Three Lakes to see the sunset.  Although the sun had already set, there was some nice color in the sky.  There was a lot of activity at the lake with red-winged blackbirds on the shore, ducks in […]

Beautiful Sunset

Last Thursday evening I was  out for a jog and saw this beautiful color in the sky.  We have been having unseasonably warm weather and some very nice sunsets.  I did manage to get home and get some photos of the sunset before it faded.  This is a panorama taken from the edge of our property looking out over the fields.  Like all the photos […]

In Search of the Full Moon

We had just arrived at the cabin and stopped at Bud’s for a quick bite and to listen to Jim Hawley’s music.  Before we could even order our sandwiches, we were invited to go on a full moon kayak paddle.  How could we turn that down? Polly, Barb, Rose, and I headed out just before 9:00. We headed out to the South end of the […]

Solitude

The end of a busy work-week.  The end of a beautiful day.  Let’s go out on the lake in the kayaks. As Rose says, “Every minute you spend on the lake in a kayak is a minute added to your life.”  This evening made it seem doubly so. Enjoy the weekend. Mark
