A Couple Hikes

I took a couple hikes while up at the cabin last week.  Here are some of thee photos. First up, the South Long Lake Forest Trail near the south end of Long Lake.  This is about 1.6 miles in length and mostly wooded.   It is an easy hike with well marked trails. The color was a bit hit or miss, but it was a great […]

Orchestra Camp Colony in the Fall

I was back up at the cabin last week.  The color has really come on strong in the previous week.  Here’s a few pictures around OCC. Heading down toward the lake is our boardwalk. Looking across the lake makes me wish I hadn’t put the kayaks away.  It would have been a cold paddle, but very pretty. Looking to the north from the kayak area. […]

Some Fall Color

We were at the cabin last weekend and took a drive in search of fall color.  The color is quite late this year, and may not be very spectacular at this point.  We’ve just now had our first frost of the season, much later than normal.  Oh, well.  Here are some photos of what we did see. We started at High Rollaway.  There was some […]

Polly’s Birthday Paddle

Yesterday was Polly’s birthday.  I had the pleasure to accompany her for an evening paddle.  It was a very calm evening; the water was flat.  The large birds were on display.  Here is some of what we saw. Here is Polly, just heading out. Polly was the first to spot this eagle.  It sat high in a tree watching us and all the surrounding area. […]

More Fall Color

The fall color in northern Michigan has been spectacular this year.  I took these photos a few weeks ago, and am finally getting them posted.   This first group of photos is at the Grass Lake State Forest Campground located west of Interlochen about 3 miles off the paved road, just off Reynolds Rd.  There were no campers on this cloudy day.  The campground is along […]

Color Tour

The color in northern Michigan is near or at the peak, depending on where you are looking.  We have taken a couple drives the last couple days to see the color and were not disappointed.  Along the way we stopped at a scenic spot in the Florey’s Ranch Estates, the Mayfield Pond Park in Mayfield, Brown Bridge Pond, now simply the Boardman River, and the […]

Color, Reflections, and Things that Fly

Finally got back on the lake this morning after a long absence.  The lake was very flat making for some interesting reflections and easy kayaking. I’ll start with color.  Yes, the color is starting to change up here.  Not very widespread, yet, but you can see it coming. Although the sky was quite overcast when we started, the sun did finally come out, leaving some […]

More Fall Color

We were at OCC a week and a half ago.  Although the color is fading, there was still some nice color.  Here are some photos taken in the colony.                     I hope you are enjoying this fall season. Mark

Fall Color Tour

We were up north a week ago and drove down a lot of dirt roads looking at the beautiful fall color. These images came from the area inside the triangle of Interlochen, Thompsonville, and Beulah. The color was fairly widespread and what we saw was beautiful.

Fall Color Around Leelanau Peninsula

We did manage to hit the peak color in the area this last weekend.  We did a couple hikes and got some photos to share. The first hike was in the TC Commons.  We had never walked in these woods that are so close to all the attractions in the commons and yet feels so isolated from the city.   There is a large cistern […]
