We continue to have warmer then usual temperatures here in southwestern Michigan. The normal high is in the mid-40s, but today it will be in the lower 60s. All the snow is gone at my house, even where it was piled nearly 5 feet high along the driveway. The only snow in the area is where it is piled high in the store parking lots, and that is melting fast.
Other signs of spring include the small, brave flowers that show themselves this time of year. I’ve seen lots of Snowdrops and some other as yet unidentified yellow flower.
If you know what these are, please let me know.
Also, in my front yard I have an area that is too shady for grass to grow that is filled with moss. This time of year there are many sprouts that come in as thick as grass, but aren’t grass. Most are green, but some are red.
Additionally, there are some buds on the flowering magnolia tree that are starting to form.
All these signs point to an early spring. However, the forecast is for the high temperatures to be back in the upper-30s by the weekend. At least there have been no reports of the fruit trees starting to blossom, so the fruit crop should be OK.
Keep your eyes open for other signs of spring.
