Day at Sleeping Bear

Another beautiful day.  We headed off to Sleeping Bear this morning.  After the obligatory stop in Empire at the Earring Store (aka Secret Garden), we headed to Pyramid Point for a short hike.  The sun was out and so were lots of other people, but it is a great hike to the top to see the vista over Lake Michigan.

The view from the top is wonderful.  You can see North Manitou Island 7 miles away.

On the walk back down we saw this rose-breasted grosbeak.

We then moved on to one of the isolated beaches near Port Oneida.  Not too many people there today.

Rose looked for Petoskey stones and very quickly found two nice ones.

The beach is mostly small stones.

Next stop was the beach at Good Harbor.  It is a narrow beach, but nice sand.

I couldn’t resist the gull sitting on a piling out in the water.

It was a great day to spend at Sleeping Bear.  I’m glad I can use my senior pass that never expires.  There are so many wonderful places to explore.  I’ll probably never see them all.
