I hate to admit it, but, I had never been to Mackinac Island before this spring. Why? I’ve no idea other than it never floated to the top of my to-do list. Rose got a great “early-season” deal at the Grand Hotel, so we decided we needed to do it.
We had to get up at about 5:00 in the morning to drive to Mackinaw City and catch the ferry. We wanted the early ferry that made a detour to the island by passing under the bridge.
Here are a couple views from below the bridge.
The Grand Hotel has the largest porch in the world at 660 feet is a grand sight from the ferry.
This view shows some of the hotels, churches, and homes in the main part of town.
With no cars on the island, there are lots of bicycles, with several bike rental shops. This is just off the ferry pier.
