Lowell and Fallasburg Michigan

I passed through Lowell, MI, earlier this week and stopped to take a few photos.  The Flat River meets the Grand River in Lowell.

I was surprised to see this paddle-wheel boat on the Flat River.  The Lowell Show Boat is also available as a party venue.

There is a dam on the Flat River with several fishermen below the dam.

There is a covered bridge just north of town, the Fallasburg Covered Bridge.  It is one of eight covered bridges, according to WikiPedia, and one of the few still open to auto traffic.

The village of Fallasburg was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999.  The buildings that remain are mostly in private hands.  The old school is now a museum, but was closed the day I was there.

Here are a couple historic plaques located outside the Schoolhouse Museum..

It was a beautiful day to wander, searching for interesting sights.  Lowell is only an hour away, but I’d never been there.  I hope you can explore the places around you.

  1. I don’t know if you are aware, but Fallasburg Park has a very nice fall festival every year. There’s food (of course), music, some great vendors of everything from amber jewelry to pottery to sunflowers.lots of good photo opportunities, too!
    Your photos are lovely.

  2. Remarkable photos The structures and especially the bridge interior is amazing. Nice to see you can display amazing creativity while leaving the Loons alone.

    1. Thanks, Bob. Its a little early for the loons, so had to do something else. Regarding the structure of the bridge, I think a nice covered bridge would be a great addition to your moon gate. You can use these photos as your starting point.

  3. Awesome! Glad you are getting out and about a bit. Love the interior of the covered bridge. Reminds me of some barn constructions. I does look like a beautiful day.
