As I said in my last post, I have fallen behind with my posts, so I’m trying to catch up. This post deals mostly with the birds we’ve seen.
Grackles are all over the lake and some don’t mind posing for a portrait.
This goldfinch was searching for breakfast.
In the spring of the year, we often see swans. They don’t spend much time on the lake before passing on. This pair was at the south end of the lake in early June.
We are very fortunate to have seen bald eagles on most of our kayaking adventures. These two were a couple weeks apart.
In late June we saw this green heron. We hadn’t seen one in a few years.

Then, on July 4, we saw this great blue heron. It was along the shore and would fly 100 yards ahead of us, wait for us to catch up, then fly again.
There are lots of red-winged blackbirds along the lake, but they are usually rather kiddish and don’t lend themselves to closeup photography. However, this one flew onto a tree very close to me, as if to show off its breakfast.
The kingfishers were making lots of noise yesterday morning. I finally got close enough to a couple to get some photos.
We also saw these deer a couple weeks ago. We startled them and they headed for shore.
It was also great to see the white water lilies in bloom.
And, with that, I think I’m mostly caught up. I will try to post images in a more timely fashion. Enjoy this time of summer!

Love the bird photos. They would make a good calendar.
Good idea, Vito. Thanks
Great bird shots! I’m taking a watercolor course painting birds and just finished a Grackle 🙂 Have a great weekend!
Thanks. Enjoy the course. Feel free to use my birds as models.
