More Fall Color

The fall color in northern Michigan has been spectacular this year.  I took these photos a few weeks ago, and am finally getting them posted.

This first group of photos is at the Grass Lake State Forest Campground located west of Interlochen about 3 miles off the paved road, just off Reynolds Rd.  There were no campers on this cloudy day.  The campground is along the Betsie River.

About 2.5 miles further down Reynolds Road is a bridge over the Betsie River.  A friendly off-duty mail carrier told us about the bridge and that we would likely see salmon spawning in the river there.  We were not disappointed.  Here are some of the pictures of the fish we saw and views of the river.

The next day we got in our last kayak paddle of the season.  The trees around the lake were in full display of color.  Now, the kayaks are pulled into the shed for the winter waiting for next spring’s adventures.

As of today, there are still lots of leaves in the trees, but the vibrant colors have passed.  No more bright yellows and reds, but mostly deep yellows and browns.  The oak trees will likely hang on to their leaves through the winter as usual.

But, even though we have had snow up here already, winter is not here, yet.  Today is a sunny, windy, and a warm 70 degrees.  Let’s make the most of the season.
