Finally Back on the Lake – Fall Colors

It has been a long absence from the lake. I had back surgery earlier this year. As a result, I have been restricted from jogging, biking, kayaking, and other summer activities. I finally received my doctor’s permission to resume some of those things I have missed. Saturday morning was my first kayak outing all summer, just in time for the fall colors.

It was a sunny, calm morning during the peak of color on the lake.

It finally took flight.

The lake was quite flat, especially at the south end where the wind was blocked by the trees.

I’ve photographed these reeds before. I love the reflections.

There weren’t very many birds or other wildlife along the lake shore. However, this kingfisher was perched near the south end of the lake.

It was such a beautiful morning to be on the lake.

I liked the patterns of light on the sandy bottom.

This log has been down in the water for several years. It formed a nice frame for this photo.

This clump of trees is near the OCC swim dock and always provides a colorful show.

Just as we were nearing the shore, an otter swam in front of us. We don’t usually see otters that close to the OCC shore.

I was thrilled to be back out on the lake, especially with the fall colors. Unfortunately, the kayaks have been put away for the season. I’m already looking forward to next spring.

  1. Happy for you Mark, beautiful pictures.I really enjoy seeing all the beautiful fall colors.
Thank you for sharing. You certainly take beautiful pictures.!!

  2. So much wonderful color!! We just don’t have color like that out here. At the lake there are mostly pines, we have to seek out those spots of color from a few aspens. Very happy you are back out there in the kayak 🙂 My ankle saga continues. Will fill you in later.
