Our ship sailed into Ketchikan early Tuesday morning with partly sunny skies. There was still a bit of morning color as the fog lifted.
The color faded, but the views were still great.
Finally, some signs of civilization.
This is the view of Ketchikan from the ship.
This is the view of Ketchikan as we got off the ship.
This sculpture, The Rock, depicts greets you as you disembark. The Rock depicts seven historical figures from Ketchikan’s past: Chief Johnson, a logger, a miner, a native elder woman, a fisherman, an aviator, and an elegant lady.
Welcome to Ketchikan, the Salmon Capital of the World!
The Ketchikan rain gauge shows the total rainfall for the year, over 170 inches so far as of August, 2022. The record is over 202 inches.
There are several totem poles and carvings throughout town. Ketchikan is known for its totem poles having more than anywhere else. You’ll get to see more in the next post.
The fishing marina was a hive of activity, ready to take you out for a day of fishing.
We had lunch at the Fish House, a sampler of Alaskan fish.
The next post will show our hike in the rainforest, a black bear catching salmon, and more.
