Rose and I headed up the Old Mission Peninsula a couple weeks ago. We hadn’t done any winery tour on that peninsula in a few years, so we wanted to check out a new winery and some old favorites.
First stop was a new winery, Mari Vineyards. The tasting room has a couple interesting features, a mosaic made from corks and a bar-top and all table-tops made from thick sawn hickory. Here are some photos.
Next stop was the Peninsula Cellars Vineyard, housed in an old schoolhouse. Their wines have names such as Detention and other school-related names.
The views along the road are also quite nice. They frequently include views of the Grand Traverse Bay and beyond.
The third winery was Bowers Harbor Vineyard.
Of course, no trip to Old Mission Peninsula would be complete without a visit at the Lighthouse. It used to be private property, but is now open to the public for tours.
Vineyards are everywhere on the peninsula. Here is St. Joseph Catholic Church, surrounded by vineyards.
Another thing the peninsula is know for is the hills. Lots of hills. Steep hills. Here is a road sign that caught my eye.
So, that’s a quick tour of the Old Mission Peninsula. I hope you can get out and enjoy the sights and sample some of the Michigan wines.
